A honey jar in soft golden wool felt is a small thing, but it has a way of showing up in every play kitchen scenario a child can invent. This one from Tara Treasures is shaped and proportioned exactly right: the rounded body, the narrow neck, the form that reads unmistakably as a honey jar to any child who has ever seen one on a breakfast table. It pairs naturally with bread, toast, and tea play, drops into a market stall scene, or makes an appearance at a bear's picnic with no setup required. The felt is dense and tactile, with the firmness that makes felt food satisfying to pick up, pass around, and pretend with.

Why it lasts.

We added the honey jar to our Tara Treasures selection because it is exactly the kind of detail that makes play food feel like a real kitchen. When a child can pick up a honey jar and drizzle it over felt toast, the whole scene becomes more believable and more interesting without anyone having to add anything. It is a small piece that fills a real gap: the pantry staple that elevates everything around it. We carry it on its own so families can add it to an existing set, and it pairs especially well with the Felt Bacon and Eggs Breakfast Set and the Felt Pancake Stack Play Food Set.

Who it's for

For the parent
A hand-felted honey jar, 2½ inches wide and 3½ inches tall, with a removable lid that children take off and on again without being told to. It belongs on a play kitchen shelf but ends up everywhere: the breakfast table, the picnic blanket, the stuffed animal tea party. A pantry staple that makes a whole play kitchen feel more complete.
For the educator
A prop for breakfast, market, and café dramatic play stations. The removable lid adds an interaction point that keeps children returning to it independently. Works in a pantry or grocery store setup alongside other play food, and integrates easily into sorting and categorizing activities.
For the gift-giver
One of those small gifts that earns a place immediately. It adds exactly the kind of detail a play kitchen is missing without anyone knowing it was missing. Fits in a gift bag, pairs with almost any play food we carry, and gets used every single day. For anyone with a felt food collection already started.

Details

Materials & construction

Each piece is crafted from 100% New Zealand wool felt, sourced from GOTS-certified farms. The wool is colored with azo-free, non-toxic dyes and verified under OEKO-TEX Standard 100. Every component, including structural threads and dyes, is cleared of over 100 harmful substances. The finished pieces contain no plastic, no batteries, and no synthetic fill.

These pieces are made in Kathmandu, Nepal, by a cooperative of over 350 women artisans, the majority of whom are mothers. Each is shaped through traditional needle-felting and wet-felting, without molds or machines. The cooperative holds Fair Trade USA certification, ensuring fair wages and safe working conditions. Your purchase directly supports the economic independence of the women who made it.

Ways to play

Open the jar, stir in an imaginary spoonful of honey, and serve it at a pretend breakfast or teddy bear tea. Use it alongside felt bread, toast, or scones for a full pantry scene. Add it to a play market display or a miniature grocery shelf for sorting and shopping play.

Pairs with the Felt Orange Marmalade Jar and the Felt Strawberry Jam and Scones Set.

Care & storage

Spot-clean with a damp cloth and mild soap. Do not submerge or machine wash. Air dry flat with the lid off. Store with the lid on in a basket or bin with other play food between sessions.
