Eight leaves, each a different shape, each with a knob sized for a small pinch. Lifting one out and finding where it goes again is the whole work, and it is harder than it looks the first few times.

Age Recommendations

345

Recommended ages, in years. Sorted by the developmental window this toy opens, so it lands in the right season.

Why it lasts.

We carry Q Toys at My Toy Wagon because they finish wood to be felt rather than sealed smooth, and because they make under a Fair Trade scheme in Vietnam with a zero-waste principle behind the material choices.

Who it's for

For the parent

The knobs are the point. They train the same pincer grip a pencil will need later, and a child can do it alone.

For the educator

A standard Montessori shape-matching work, and the nature subject gives it a second use in a seasonal unit.

For the gift-giver

It looks like an object rather than a toy, which is why it tends to stay out on a shelf.

Ways to play.

Match leaf to slot. Name the shapes. Take the pieces outside and find the real thing. Trace around each leaf on paper.

Perfectly simple and durable puzzle for little hands.

I love the simplicity of the puzzle, it says ages 2+ and it still works well for a skilled 4 year-old. We made a game of it and then went on a leaf hunt. The puzzle is well crafted, appealing, and very appropriate for promoting an awareness of nature.

Everything I hoped it would be!! Shipped and got to me in less than a week and absolutely love it!

Puzzle was very well made. Beautiful shapes and colors. Sure to last for generations!

Leaf puzzle

Nice wooden puzzle with easy to manipulate knobs

Details

Materials & construction

The board and leaf pieces are rubberwood with MDF, a dense engineered board, and the knobs are turned wood. Not solid timber throughout.

Designed in Australia and made in Vietnam under a Fair Trade scheme by Q Toys.

Age & safety

Safety

Tested to ASTM F963, the US toy safety standard. Recommended for ages 3 and up.

Care & storage

Wipe with a dry cloth, or one barely damp. Do not soak, and keep it out of direct sun so the colors hold.

Because the timber is natural and the work is done by hand, grain, color and size vary a little from piece to piece. That is the material showing, not a fault.

They finish their wood to stay palpable under a hand rather than sealed smooth, so a child feels the grain of the thing they are holding.
