One piece of furniture, a dozen different worlds. This Waldorf playstand is a curved half arch and a separate set of shelves that a child can arrange into a theater, a shop, a pirate ship, or a quiet reading nook, then take apart and build into something else tomorrow.

Drape a cloth over the arch and it is a puppet stage. Stand the shelves up front and it is a market. It is the open-ended backbone of a playroom, the kind of thing that becomes whatever the day calls for.

Why it lasts.

Drewart works in solid alder with a natural linseed-oil finish and no varnish, so the grain shows and the surface wears in over years of use. This is a heavy, substantial piece, built to be draped, leaned on, stocked, and rearranged daily. Each one is hand-shaped, so no two are exactly alike, and it is made to last from one child to the next.

Who it's for

For the parent
At home it is the most versatile thing in the playroom. Your child turns the arch and shelves into a shop one day and a stage the next, draping cloths, stocking shelves, and inventing the rest. It is solid and heavy, the open-ended backbone other toys gather around, and it grows with their imagination rather than aging out.
For the educator
In the classroom it is a flexible anchor for dramatic play and learning corners: a puppet theater, a shop, a reading nook, or a room divider, reset as often as the day needs. The arch and shelving invite cooperative play, storytelling, and tidy display, and it is built to take constant use. A scale and register can be added for a full shop.
For the gift-giver
It is the big, lasting gift that anchors a whole playroom, a Waldorf classic that becomes a theater, a shop, or a hideaway depending on the day. Solid wood, beautifully simple, and endlessly open-ended. It suits the family investing in heirloom pieces that get years of use rather than a season.

Ways to play.

Stand the arch up and drape a cloth for a puppet theater, or set the shelves out front to open a shop. Build a pirate ship, a market stall, or a cozy reading nook, then take it apart and make something new. Stock the shelves, hang a sign, and let the play decide what it is today.

Pairs with the Drewart Cash Register and the Drewart Scale to set up shop.

Materials & construction

The Drewart Playstand and Playshop is made from solid alder, a close-grained European hardwood, with a natural linseed-oil finish and no varnish, so the grain shows and the wood can be re-oiled over the years. It is a heavy, substantial set, and every piece is hand-shaped, so small variations are normal.

Drewart has worked in wood for more than forty years, crafting its toys in Poland. Every piece is hand-shaped, so the grain, knots, and finish vary slightly from one to the next. Drewart toys are CE marked, tested to the European toy safety standard EN 71, and made from FSC-certified wood from responsibly managed forests.

Care & storage

Wipe clean with a dry or barely damp cloth, then dry it right away. Do not soak the wood or leave it sitting in water, since standing moisture can raise the grain or loosen a joint over time. If the wood ever looks dry or pale, rub in a little food-safe oil, such as linseed or a board oil, and buff off the excess. Store it somewhere dry and out of direct sun or a hot radiator, which can fade or crack natural wood. Small marks and a softening patina are normal on an oiled, unvarnished toy and are part of how it ages.
