The set is four felt donuts in different flavors: a classic glazed in pale cream with a blush-pink icing layer and white sprinkles, a chocolate frosted in dark brown with multicolored sprinkles, a strawberry in white dough with deep-pink icing and yellow sprinkle details, and a blueberry in a pale grey-blue dough with a slightly deeper icing glaze. Each donut is roughly 10 cm across and 3.5 cm deep, with a proper center hole and a dimensional icing layer that is a separate piece of felted wool stitched onto the top surface so it reads as the glaze rather than just a color change. The sprinkles across each donut are individual small lengths of colored wool, hand-placed and tacked in position, which gives them a three-dimensional texture you can feel. The dough base and icing of each are made from New Zealand wool felted by hand, dyed with azo-free pigments that meet European children's clothing standards. The set is sized to work with standard play kitchen trays, wooden plates, and most bakery-themed play food collections. Tara Treasures is a women's cooperative in Kathmandu, and each donut in this set is hand-shaped, hand-assembled, and individually stitched.

Why it lasts.

Play food made from felt has a particular quality that plastic or wood does not: it is soft enough to be picked up and carried by very young children without the weight and hardness that makes other play food frustrating for toddlers, and it is detailed enough to be satisfying for children who are old enough to care about what things look like. These donuts are made to the upper end of what felt play food can achieve. Each flavor has a distinct color story worked in wool rather than applied as paint, the icing layer is a separate piece rather than a color wash, and the sprinkles are individual wool strands placed by hand rather than dots of color on a printed surface. That level of detail matters because it is what makes a child reach for these repeatedly rather than once. The New Zealand wool Tara Treasures uses for this set is the same fiber they use for their playscapes and finger puppets: dense, non-pilling, and felted by hand so the colors are locked inside the fiber rather than sitting on top. A set of four donuts that has been played with daily for two years looks different from one played with daily for a week, but it does not look broken.
