Three iced cookies for a pretend Halloween bake, each 2.8 in across and 0.6 in thick. Each one is a tan felted biscuit with the icing worked on top, and the biscuit edge shows all the way around, which is what makes them read as cookies rather than as felt shapes.

The jack-o'-lantern is ribbed orange with a brown stem and a wide toothed grin. Frankenstein has a flat black crop of hair, two gray bolts at the neck, and stitches worked into his forehead. The ghost is cream with a scalloped hem and three black dots for a face.

Because each cookie is shaped by hand rather than cut to a pattern, the set you receive will not match the photograph exactly. Grins come out wider or narrower, the ghost's dots sit differently, and Frankenstein's expression changes from one to the next. The shapes and colors are consistent. The faces are not, and that is the nature of the work rather than a flaw in it.

From age three and up, through the Pre-K and early-primary years. The three characters are recognizable well before a child can name them.

Why it lasts.

We carry Playtisserie at My Toy Wagon because their Halloween pieces are made to the same standard as the rest of the range rather than dropped in for one season. These are one hundred percent merino wool sourced in New Zealand, colored with non-toxic dyes, and wet and needle felted by hand. Most felt Halloween cookies on the market are polyester with machine embroidery. Wool holds a face this specific because the fiber is worked into shape rather than stitched onto a surface.

Who it's for

For the parent
You want Halloween in the house without plastic or batteries, and you would rather buy one good set than a bag of things thrown out in November.
For the educator
It works in a dramatic play kitchen through October and gives children three distinct characters to name and describe before they invent anything.
For the gift-giver
It arrives in a branded Playtisserie box, and three cookies means it can be split between siblings or kept together.

Ways to play.

Three cookies is enough for a bakery counter and few enough that a child has to decide who gets which one. They serve, they trade, and the ghost usually goes first.

They also outlast the season. A wool cookie is still a wool cookie in March, and none of the three faces is frightening, so this is a set that tends to stay in the play kitchen after the pumpkins are packed away. The pumpkin in particular carries straight through the fall.

Details

Materials & construction

Playtisserie felt is designed in Australia and made from one hundred percent natural merino wool sourced in New Zealand. Each design begins as raw wool fiber, colored with non-toxic dyes before it is shaped.

Two techniques build the pieces. In needle felting, the fibers are compressed by hand and sculpted by repeatedly working the wool with a barbed needle, with different needle sizes used to shape and refine each part. In wet felting, water, soap and agitation mat the fibers into a solid form. Every piece is smoothed and trimmed by hand once it is finished.

Because each piece is shaped rather than cut to a pattern, expect small differences between one and the next in color depth, size and the placement of details. What you receive will not be an exact match for the photograph.

The work is done start to finish by artisans in Nepal. Full qualification takes close to three years of training, and eighty-five percent of the artisans employed are women.

Care & storage

Spot clean with a barely damp cloth and lay flat to dry. Never put wool felt through a washing machine, since heat and agitation will shrink and harden it. Store the three cookies flat and unstacked under anything heavy, so the felted faces keep their relief. Small parts. Not for children under 3 years, and young children should be supervised during play.

Playtisserie I am Kim, the founder of Playtisserie. I am a mother and a registered dental practitioner with more than fifteen years in pediatric care, and that work taught me a great deal about how children communicate and how they thrive through interaction. I wanted to make beautifully crafted natural toys that invite creativity rather than direct it. Every piece in the collection is handmade from sustainable materials. We work closely with skilled artisans in Nepal, Vietnam and Indonesia, supporting those communities while making sure each item is finished with care. In a world where convenience often crowds out connection, we believe in pretend play. Quality, durability and sustainability guide what we make and how we make it.
