Children hold the blocks up to the window first. Red over blue makes violet, yellow over blue makes green, and the discovery keeps repeating because the answer changes with every pair they try. On the table the blocks stack square and sit flush in the openings of Bauspiel wooden blocks. A wall becomes a row of lit windows, and sorting the twenty-four back into twelve matching pairs gives the work a quiet place to end.

Shipped from our Los Angeles studio, or directly from the maker, with tracking emailed when it leaves. Multi-classroom orders can be split-shipped to individual sites or consolidated to a central receiving dock.

Wipe the blocks with a damp cloth and a little soapy water, then dry them right away. Do not soak them, do not use hot water or disinfectant, and keep them out of the dishwasher.

The Maker

Bauspiel

Bauspiel is Uwe Deckelmann and his daughter Hanna. 'Bauspiel' means 'building game' in German, and the line grows out of Friedrich Fröbel's kindergarten tradition of simple forms that ask nothing and allow everything. The wood is native European lime, alder and beech, with maple and cherry from sustainable cultivation, colored and oiled so the grain stays visible and the soul of the wood remains perceptible. The felt pieces are New Zealand sheep's wool, hand-felted by family businesses in Nepal under fair-trade guidelines. The acrylic is made in Taiwan. Everything is quality-checked and shipped from Augsburg, Germany.
